§ 230.23. Sign height.

  • A.

    The height of a sign shall be computed as the distance from the base of the sign structure at normal grade to the top of the highest attached component of the sign. Normal grade shall be construed to be the lower of: (1) existing grade prior to construction or (2) the newly established grade after construction, exclusive of any filling, berming, mounding, or excavating solely for the purpose of locating the sign. In cases in which the normal grade cannot reasonably be determined, sign height shall be computed on the assumption that the elevation of the normal grade at the base of the sign is equal to the elevation of the crown of the nearest public street or the grade of the land at the principal entrance to the principal structure on the lot, whichever is higher. Where the normal grade is below the normal grade of the nearest public street, the sign height shall be calculated from the elevation of the normal grade of the closest public street to the highest point of the sign (surveyor's certificate required).

    B.

    The height of a sign at its highest point above the level of the ground may be no greater than eight (8) feet in A-1, A-2, R-1, R-1A, R-1B, R-2, R-3, MH and TNPD districts and not greater than twenty-five (25) feet in any B-1, B-2, P, E, I, except as noted in this article.

    C.

    A maximum of thirty-five (35) feet in height is permitted for SR316 Visible Signs in a B-1, B-2, P or I zone located within three-hundred (300) feet of the Georgia Department of Transportation right-of-way.

    D.

    A maximum of forty-five (45) feet in height is permitted for SR316 Visible Signs in a B-1, B-2, P or I zone located between three-hundred (300') feet and eight hundred (800) feet of the Georgia Department of Transportation right-of-way.

    E.

    A maximum of sixty (60) feet in height is permitted for SR316 visible signs in a B-1, B-2, P or I zone more than eight hundred (800) feet of the Georgia Department of Transportation right-of-way

    F.

    SR 316 Visible Signs meeting the definition and criteria of a billboard may be permitted up to a maximum of eighty (80) feet in height in a B-1 or B-2, zone.
